Instagram is No Longer a Photo Sharing App

Alright, so you may have noticed last Monday I actually put up a post, we put up a post in the Mars Digital group here about what ahead of Instagram mentioned.

Specifically, that and I quote this, Instagram is no longer a photo-sharing app. And I kind of wanted to jump in to what that means and a little bit more detail and then we can kind of discuss it about how this is going to affect how you move forward and how you do your marketing, and how you use Instagram in general.

So, they’re not saying that Instagram isn’t a photo-sharing App, it’s just not a priority.
Because of the success of platforms like TikTok for example, and how well that’s going, and general psychology.

I mean for example you may have noticed that if you’re in a room, talking to someone, you’re having dinner or whatever but the TV is on the background but it could even be on mute. But there’s a moving image, and you pay attention to it, or you keep glancing over at it.

It’s not because you are trying to ignore the person you are talking to, it’s just because there’s a moving image that is attracting your attention. That’s what videos all about, it is about capturing attention. And moving images are perfect for it so Instagram wants to promote and prioritize video content.

So, what is it mean for you really?
If you’re using Instagram to just browse and have a bit of fun, see what’s going on, then nothing.

But if you’re using Instagram to market your business, to get in front of users and to try and use Instagram’s own algorithm, to get the name out there, to get your business name out there to as many people as possible, you’re going to need to start focusing on creating video content.

It doesn’t mean that that has to be topnotched, Hollywood level of sophistication type content, it just means that you need to create videos.

This could be as simple as those, there’s a software called Lumen5, which if you go to the website lumen5.com, you are able to put in a Blogpost for example, and that Blogpost will get converted into a video, put some photos behind it, you can highlight particular texts, you can make it 10 seconds, 30 seconds, whatever you want.

The free version is limited in terms of its resolution so as standard definition as supposed to high definition so you can use it, play around and see what you think.

But ultimately, if you’re to be going to use it really, I would recommend purchasing a subscription. But you can use something like that to create video easily from your SEO activities and doing Blogposts to really capture Instagrams’s move to prioritizing video content.

And realistically, that’s all that’s gonna change, put a little bit more time and effort into creating videos like using Lumen5 as supposed to end up Photoshop or in Canva to create little images like the one that I was actually talking about.

How Instagram is no longer a photo-sharing app or has lost its priority being a photo-sharing.
